Faith, Fiction, & Fairytales

Writerly ramblings on books and life from teen author Hannah Ruth.

About

Hannah Ruth is an avid reader and writer. She has works published in the anthology In Our Own Words: Life as a Student, and her short story, “An Orphan No Longer”, is available to read for free at whitecrownpublishing.com. She lives on a forty-acre blueberry farm in Michigan where she enjoys gardening and the country life—muck boots and all—and loves to hate the bitter winters. And, of course, she spends a good bit of time dreaming up fairytale romances.

Okay… now that that’s out of the way…

I’m a teen author who absolutely adores a good princess story. My favorite authors include Hannah Currie and Melanie Dickerson for just that reason! I’m always looking for new YA Christian fiction authors, and my current goal is to become one myself.

My first full-length novel was a middle-grade mystery, 30,000 words long, and a complete mess. And there have been quite a few messes since then, but I’m learning that the journey to becoming an author involves a lot of practice—and as in any other skill, you have to make mistakes and learn from them.

My greatest goal is to encourage other teens to join me in chasing after Jesus. As Paul said to Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” I write characters who embody these principles, examples of what it means to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, even if they haven’t hit the eighteen-year mark.

Some random facts about me:

  • I’m 100% a night person. I get my best writing done between 9 and 10 PM.
  • I have two sweet cockapoos, Hope and Grace. I always have at least one of them sitting with me!
  • I used to be a full-fledged city girl, but my family built a house (with our own hands) in the country and now live in it. And let me tell you… I have a lot of strange experiences. Ever swept snow out of your entire main floor? Flushed a toilet with a five-gallon bucket? Built a stud wall? I sure hope you haven’t.
  • The first “adult book” I ever read was Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke, then I read all Amish Fiction for a long while.
